Duties of C. Milton Wright School Counselors
In an average day, the counselors are working on the following things to help students be healthy, happy, and successful academically and beyond:
- Coordinating 504 Plans
- Checking to ensure that students are meeting graduation requirements
- Parent/Teacher meetings
- Student Support Team Meetings
- Registration and scheduling
- Naviance lessons, training, and support for teachers, students, and families
- Advanced Placement course placements
- Coordination of communication with military recruiters
- Scholarship coordination
- Individual Counseling for students
- Coordinating the Peer Helpers program
- Coordination of dual enrollment at HCC/part-time schedules
- College and Career Counseling
- Group counseling for students
- Classroom lessons on topics needed for each grade level

What a school counselor is not!
- A way for you to skip class whenever you feel like it - Someone that does all your paperwork for you - A teacher who is just waiting to retire but still wants to get paid - Someone who just hides in their office all day until they hear the bell. -Someone who only cares about your schedules and does not want to meet with you for any other reason. - An administrator that doesn't want to do much work - A lazy educator - A pushover that you can exploit to do whatever you want in schools. - An educator who doesn't know your name or care about you- someone that you see only once a year or so for 10 minutes and that is all. |

- A safe place for students to go when they need extra support - A person who can assist students with applications and more - An educator who works tirelessly and relentlessly because they love working with students. - Someone who works jam-packed days with crazy hours in order to support the students - And adult that wants to ensure that you are on the path to an excellent high school experience and a great college/career life and helps to do so in a variety of ways! - An adult that support students that is not a principal, assistant principal, or official administrator. - A dedicated and passionate student advocate - A consistent but supportive member of the student support team. - An educator who, despite having several hundred students to care for, makes an effort to know you- your name, your story, your interests, your passions, your skills, and what we can do to support each student! |
